The Alameda Point Development Process

Upon being selected as master developer of Alameda Point in May 2007, SunCal entered into a two-year exclusive negotiating agreement with the City of Alameda, during which SunCal will work with the City and the Navy to finalize the terms of the property transfer and define plans for a new community. This two-year process includes a number of milestones, including a variety of approvals from the City, the Navy and regulatory agencies.

The first step towards bringing a variety of mixed uses and benefits to Alameda Point is to work with local residents and officials to create a land plan for the new community. Meetings with the community to gather their input and consider alternatives will take place throughout late 2007 and early 2008.

Based on feedback from Alameda residents and officials working together with SunCal's team of land planners, a conceptual development and infrastructure plan will be presented for consideration. This will be followed sometime later by a key Alameda Reuse and Redevelopment Authority public hearing, and shortly thereafter, a presentation of the Alameda Point draft master plan.

SunCal will then submit its entitlement plan, and this will mark the start of the formal public review and approval process. This will include the draft environmental impact report and supplemental environmental impact statement will be circulated, and a series of public hearings will take place, providing opportunities for public comment.

Concurrently, a development agreement will be finalized between SunCal and the City of Alameda, resulting in project approvals and the finalization of the EIR and SEIS. Once these documents are in place, the process of remediation and construction will be the next steps in making the new vision for Alameda Point a reality.
