Building a New Neighborhood - The Public Process

The City of Alameda took on the task of building a vibrant neighborhood on Alameda Point by partnering with a master developer. After thorough review, the City of Alameda selected SunCal as the master developer of Alameda Point in May 2007. SunCal entered into a three-year exclusive negotiating agreement with the City. This process included a number of milestones, including a variety of reviews and approvals from the City, the Navy and regulatory agencies.

In 2007 and 2008, over 20 meetings were held with the community to gather their input and consider alternatives. Based on feedback from Alameda residents a conceptual development and infrastructure plan was presented for consideration in late 2008. On January 7, 2009, the Alameda Point Draft Redevelopment Master Plan was presented to the Alameda Reuse and Redevelopment Authority at a public hearing.

What is the Next Step?

On February 2, Alameda voters will cast their ballot for the Alameda Point Initiative. A YES vote on Measure B will allow the plan to move forward. If the initiative does not pass, the base will continue to sit unused and be a drain on taxpayer dollars.

It's time to change Alameda Point from a financial burden to a community asset.
