Focus on Environmental Cleanup at Alameda Point

The Navy and the City of Alameda will share responsibility for cleaning up Alameda Point. If approved, the Alameda Point Revitalization Initiative will pay for the City of Alameda’s role in the cleanup.

Navy’s Role

  • Clean up everything below ground, including soil and groundwater.
  • Ensure that soil and groundwater meet commercial safety standards.

 

City of Alameda’s Role

  • Fund above-ground cleanup, including removal of lead, asbestos, and other hazardous materials.
  • Clean contaminated soil and groundwater to residential safety standards.
